SWIMMERS COMPETE AT ETOWN
ELIZABETHTOWN,
Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s and women’s swimming teams
competed in a double-dual meet at Elizabethtown College, Saturday
afternoon. Washington & Jefferson College was the third team
at the event. The Warrior men defeated both the Blue Jays and the
Presidents by scores of 84-10 and 48-47, respectively. Lycoming
women topped Elizabethtown 71-24, but fell to W&J 26-69.
Nathan
DeCapria (So./Jersey Shore, Pa.; Central Mountain)
and Stuart Olsen (So./Evanston, Ill.; Evanston) led the
Warrior men versus Elizabethtown by each winning two events.
DeCapria won the 50 and 100 free races, while Olsen won the 200
and 500 frees. Chris Dempsey (Fr./Newtown, Pa.; Notre Dame)
added a win in the 1000 free, Jeff Swatkins (So./Guilford,
Conn.; Xavier) won the 200 IM, Josh Hogan (Jr./Waverly,
N.Y.; Waverly) won the 100 fly, Steve Hawley (So./New
Cumberland, Pa.; Trinity) won the 100 back, and Dustin Long
(So./Halifax, Pa.; Halifax) won the 100 breaststroke. Lycoming
also won both the 200-medley and the 200-free relays to sweep
every event.
Against
W&J DeCapria won the 50 free, Hogan won the 100 fly, Hawley
won the 100 back, and Long won the 100 breast. Long’s victory
kept the Warriors in contention versus the Presidents entering the
final event – the 200 free relay. Lycoming won the relay to
secure the one-point victory.
Kelly
Sykes (So./Willimantic, Conn.; Windham)
and Rebecca Fox (Jr./Middletown, N.J.; Middletown) led the
Warrior women versus Elizabethtown with two individual victories
each. Sykes won the 200 free and the 100 back. Fox won the 200 IM
and the 500 free. Jess Amadore (Sr./Easton, Pa.; Wilson) added
a win in the 50 free, and Kellie Cicconi (Fr./Odessa, N.Y.;
Odessa-Montour Central) won the 100 free. Lycoming also won
both the 200-medley and 200-free relays.
Sykes
also won the 100 back against W&J. Amy Gatehouse
(Fr./Bethel Park, Pa.; Bethel Park) was the Warriors’ only
other event-winner versus the Presidents, winning the 100
breaststroke.
“Both
teams exceeded my expectations for this meet,” said head coach
Jerry Hammaker. “Our athletes swan really well, and turned in
some great times.”
Lycoming
will travel to Drew University on Saturday, November 22, for their
next dual meet.
