WARRIOR
SWIMMERS CONTINUE TO SWIM WELL AT MACS;
MEN BREAK FIVE MORE SCHOOL
RECORDS
SELINSGROVE, PA
– The Lycoming College swimming teams continued to perform well
during the second day of the Middle Atlantic Conference
Championships. Both teams maintained their positions in the team
standings with the men in third and the women in fifth. The
Warrior men also continued their assault on Lycoming’s record
book setting five new school marks.
Three of the
records broken were individual and two were relay teams. Chris
Mungo (Fr./Boonton, NJ; Boonton) claimed the first individual
mark in the 400 IM, swimming a 4:31.23 in his preliminary race.
Mungo ended up placing seventh in the event. Nathan DeCapria
(Fr./Jersey Shore, PA; Central Mountain) followed with a
:54.90 in the 100 butterfly to claim his second record of the
championships and a fifth place finish in the event. Steve
Hawley (Fr./New Cumberland, PA; Trinity) also tallied his
second record of the meet with a :53.94 in the 100 backstroke.
Hawley finished the race in second place.
The men’s
200-medley and 800-free relay team also broke school records. The
team of Hawley, DeCapria, Josh Hogan (So./Waverly, PA; Waverly),
and Matt Thompson (Sr./Canisteo, NY; Canisteo Central) swam
a 1:41.15 in the 200-medley. In the 800-free, it was Mungo, Dustin
Long (Fr./Halifax, PA; Halifax), Jeff Swatkins
(Fr./Guilford, CT; Xavier), and Stuart Olsen (Fr./Evanston,
IL; Evanston Twp.) swimming a time of 7:26.80 to set the new
standard.
Other
place-winners for the Warrior men included: Dave DeZago
(Jr./Sarasota, FL; Tappen Zee) and Brett Bausinger
(Fr./Berwick, PA; Berwick) – 6th and 11th
in the 400IM, respectively; Hogan – 5th in the 100
back and 6th in the 100 fly; Swatkins – 12th
in the 100 fly; Long – 7th in the 200 free; Olsen –
10th in the 200 free; and Thompson – 11th
in the 100 breaststroke.
Lycoming’s
women were led by freshman Kelly Sykes (Willimantic, CT;
Windham) who finished second in the 100 backstroke. Rebecca
Fox (So./Middletown, NJ; Middletown) added a fourth-place
finish in the 200 free, and Erin Horsley (So./Allegany, NY;
Allegany Central) placed fifth in the 400 IM.
Other Warrior
women place-winners included: Erin Patrick (So./Media, PA;
Penncrest) – 11th in the 100 fly; Kristen
Campbell (Sr./Camp Hill, PA; Cedar Cliff) – 10th
in the 100 breaststroke; and Karissa Brown (So./Chemung, NY;
Waverly), Jessica Amadore (Jr./Easton, PA; Wilson), and
Andrea Rapach (Sr./Pittsford, NY; Pittsford Mendon) – 6th,
8th, and 11th, respectively in the 100
backstroke.
Competition
at the MAC Championships resumes at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
