LYCOMING’S HAMMAKER EARNS COACHING AWARD

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Lycoming College swimming coach Jerry Hammaker has received the Award of Excellence from the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) for “Outstanding Coaching Achievement in the United States of America in 2003”. The award is given by the ASCA to those coaches who have received the highest level of national achievement.

Last season, Hammaker coached freshman Nathan DeCapria (Jersey Shore, PA; Central Mountain) to a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle at the NCAA Division III National Championships. He also guided the men’s team to a dual meet record of 8-2 and the women’s team to a dual meet record of 7-3.

“Jerry has done a fantastic job since taking over the swimming program,” said Director of Athletics Frank Girardi. “In a very short period of time, he has made both the men’s and women’s teams competitive not only in the conference but also on the national level. This award is well deserved and we’re very happy that Jerry has received such an honor.”
