DECAPRIA WINS 50 FREE
SELINSGROVE, PA
– The Lycoming College swimming teams traveled to Susquehanna
University, Friday, to compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference
Championships. Both the men’s and women’s teams are off to
strong starts after the first day of competition. The men are in
third place with 82 points, trailing Widener (133) and Albright
(171). The women are in fifth place with 85 points behind Scranton
(98), Widener (101), Juniata (107), and Albright (115).
Lycoming’s men
highlighted their strong performance by breaking four school
records and claiming an individual conference champion. Nathan
DeCapria (Fr./Jersey Shore, PA; Central Mountain) captured the
MAC title in the 50 freestyle, swimming a :21.57 in the finals.
Earlier in the day he swam a :21.41 in the preliminaries to also
set a new school record in the event. Steven Hawley (Fr./New
Cumberland, PA; Trinity) placed third in the 50 free less than
half a second behind DeCapria. Hawley also bettered his own school
record in the 100 backstroke on the opening leg of the 400-medley
relay.
The Warriors set
new school marks in two relays at the meet. The team of DeCapria,
Hawley, Dustin Long (Fr./Halifax, PA; Halifax), and Josh
Hogan (So./Waverly, NY; Waverly) crushed the Lycoming record
for the 400-medley with a time of 3:42.41 – more than three full
seconds faster the previous mark set in 2001. The 200 free relay
team of DeCapria, Hawley, Hogan, and Tim Roche (Fr./Wyndmoor,
PA; Springfield) improved their own record set earlier this
year with a time of 1:27.91.
Lycoming’s
women were led by a second-place finish in the 50 free by Andrea
Rapach (Sr./Pittsford, NY; Pittsford Mendon) and a third-place
finish in the 200 IM by Rebecca Fox (So./Middletown, NJ;
Middletown). Other Warrior place-winners were: Erin Patrick
(So./Media, PA; Penncrest) – 10th in the 200 IM; Kelly
Sykes (Fr./Willimantic, CT; Windham) – 6th in the
50 free; and Jess Amadore (Jr./Easton, PA; Wilson) – 9th
in the 50 free. Lycoming’s women’s relays placed third in the
200-free and fifth in the 400-medley.
