The Lycoming College womens and mens swimming team traveled
to Clarion University, Saturday afternoon, for a quad-meet with
Clarion, Shippensburg, and Edinboro all NCAA Division II
institutions. Both Warrior teams performed well, placing third at
the event. The womens squad scored 293 points to finish behind
Clarion (569) and Shippensburg (448), but ahead of Edinboro (147).
The mens team tallied 321 points to finish behind Clarion
(611.5) and Shippensburg (369), but ahead of Edinboro (137).
Im very
pleased with how we swam today, said Lycoming head coach Jerry
Hammaker. We scheduled this meet because we wanted high-end
competition early in the season, but we also wanted to come away
with a win against at least one of these DII school and both our
teams did. Weve been working hard in practice and came in a
little tired, but I think we had good meet and set ourselves up
for the we want to accomplish in the next few weeks.
Lycomings
women were led by freshman Kelly Sykes (Willimantic, CT;
Windham) who was the Warriors top finisher in three
individual events. Sykes placed third in the 100 back (1:03.04),
fourth in the 200 back (2:19.29), and seventh in the 100 fly
(1:05.34). She was also a member of Lycomings 200-medley relay
team that placed fifth in a time of 1:57.92.

also was Lycoming top finisher in three events, as well as
swimming on a relay team. Long placed third in the 1650 free
(18:26.13), fifth in the 200 free (1:56.96), and fifth in the 500
