LYCOMING
SWIMMING NIPS SCRANTON; ROLLS PAST FDU-MADISON
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College swimming teams each picked up a pair of
conference victories, Saturday afternoon. The women’s team
dominated FDU-Madison, 97-8, and defeated Scranton, 97-95. The
Warrior men’s team downed the Devils, 98-5, and topped the
Royals, 98-94. Both the men’s and women’s meets versus
Scranton came down to the final relays.
Lycoming’s
women were led by Andrea Rapach (Jr./Pittford, NY; Pittsford
Mendon) who won both the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Karen
Turpin (So./West Windsor, NJ; Princeton) also picked up an
individual win in the 200 butterfly.
The key to the
Warriors’ victory, however, was the sweep of the two relay
races. The team of Karissa Brown (Fr./Chemung, NY; Waverly),
Kristen Campbell (Jr./Camp Hill, PA; Cedar Cliff), Erin
Patrick (Fr./Media, PA; Penncrest), and Turpin won the 400
medley relay to open the meet. Erin Horsley (Fr./Allegany, NY;
Allegany Central), Jess Amadore (So./Easton, PA; Wilson
Area), Patrick, and Rapach then closed the meet out with a
victory-clinching swim in the 400 freestyle relay.
On the men’s
side, Chris DeZago (So./Sparkill, NY; Tappen Zee) was a
double-winner in the 1,000 and 500 freestyles. Chris Rager
(Sr./Camp Hill, PA; Cumberland Valley), Greg Brown
(Sr./Mechanicsburg, PA; Cumberland Valley), and Josh Hogan
(Fr./Waverly, NY; Waverly) each added individual wins as well.
Rager won the 50 free, Brown won the 100 free, and Hogan finished
first in the 200 backstroke.
Lycoming’s men
also won both relays to key their tight victory over Scranton. Matt
Thompson (Jr./Canisteo, NY; Canisteo Central) and Rob Neil
(Jr./Dallas, PA; Dallas) joined Rager and Hogan on the winning
400 medley relay team. Will Dolben (Fr./Portsmouth, NH; St.
Thomas Aquinas), Rich Jones (Sr./Montgomery, NY; Valley
Central), Jeff Field (Fr./Shamong, NY; Shawnee), and Jeremy
Klaas (So./Metuchen, NJ; Metuchen) then combined to win the
400 free relay and the meet for the Warriors.
“This was a
huge day for us. Both the wins over Scranton by the women’s and
men’s teams were simply outstanding,” said Lycoming Head Coach
Jerry Hammaker. “We had some great individual performances, but
the key today and what I am most proud of is how we came together
as a team, on both sides, and really stepped it up.”
