WARRIOR
SWIMMERS POST SOLID SECOND DAY AT MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
CHESTER, PA –
The Lycoming College swimming teams had another strong showing at
the Middle Atlantic Conference Swimming Championships being held
at Widener University in the second day of competition. The
women’s team held off a rally by Scranton to maintain their
position in second place. The men’s team stayed in the thick of
things by maintaining sixth place.
Lycoming’s
women claimed nine individual place-winners and finished 3rd
and 5th in the 200-medley and 800-free relays
respectively.
Karissa
Brown (Fr./Chemung, NY; Waverly)
turned in the top performance of the evening, placing second in
the 100 backstroke. Jess Amadore (So./Easton, PA; Wilson Area)
and Andrea Rapach (Jr./Pittsford, NY; Pittsford Mendon)
also placed in the event, finishing 5th and 11th
respectively.
The Warriors
also had three place-winners in the 100 fly. Karen Turpin
(So./West Windsor, NJ; Princeton) led the way coming in fourth
place. Erin Patrick (Fr./Media, PA; Penncrest) followed in
6th place and Tracey Fausel (Fr./Burdett, NY;
Watkins Glen) came in 10th.
Rebecca Fox
(Fr./Middletown, NJ; Middletown)
picked up a sixth place finish in the 400 IM with Erin Horsley
(Fr./Allegany, NY; Allegany Central) close behind in eight
place.
Kristin
Campbell (Jr./Camp Hill, PA; Cedar Cliff)
rounded out the individual place-winners with a fourth-place
finish in the 100 breaststroke.
As a team
Lycoming’s women are in second place with 220 points. They trail
current leader Albright who has 290, but they lead Scranton with
207 and Widener with 156.
On the men’s
side the Warriors picked up six individual places in addition to a
fourth in the 800-free relay and a sixth in the 200-medley relay.
Two of those
places came in the 100 fly where Josh Hogan (Fr./Waverly, NY;
Waverly) came across in 6th and Rob Neil
(Jr./Dallas, PA; Dallas) placed 11th. Another two
came in the 100 breaststroke. Greg Brown (Sr./Mechanicsburg,
PA; Cumberland Valley) placed 7th in the event and Matt
Thompson (Jr./Canisteo, NY; Canisteo Central) came in 10th.
Hogan added a
fourth place finish in the 100 backstroke and Chris DeZago
(So./Sparkill, NY; Tappen Zee) notched a ninth place finish in
the 200 freestyle to round out the place-winners from Lycoming.
The
Warrior men are in sixth place as a team with 125 points, trailing
Widener (347.5), Albright (342), Drew (178), Scranton (144.5), and
Elizabethtown (128). Sunday will be the final day of competition
at the Championships.
