SWIMMERS KICK OFF 2002-2003 SEASON WITH BLUE-GOLD MEET
WILLIAMSPORT, PA –
The
Lycoming College swim teams got the 2002-2003 season under way,
Saturday evening, with an inter-squad meet. The Blue-Gold meet was
a huge success with many student-athletes turning in quality times
early in the season.
Steve
Hawley (Fr./New Cumberland, Pa.) provided the biggest
highlight of the meet, setting a new school record in the 50
freestyle. Hawley swam a time of :21.47 to crush the previous
record of :22.17 held by Kevin Barrick and set in 1994. Hawley
also won the 100 freestyle with a time of :49.59.
Other
individual winners for the men included: Dustin Long
(Fr./Halifax, Pa.) in the 1000 free, Brett Bausinger
(Fr./Berwick, Pa.) in the 200 free, Jeff Swatkins
(Fr./Guilford, Conn.) in the 200 IM, Chris Mungo
(Fr./Boonton, N.J.) in the 100 fly, Josh Hogan
(So./Waverly, N.Y.) in the 100 backstroke, Dave DeZago
(Jr./Sarasota, Fla.) in the 500 free, and Matt Thompson
(Sr./Canisteo, N.Y.) in the 100 breaststroke.
On
the women's side, Kelly Sykes (Fr./Willimantic, Conn.) led
the way with three individual victories. Sykes won the 200 free,
100 fly, and 100 backstroke. Andrea Rapach (Sr./Pittsford,
N.Y.), Nesma Karedis (Fr./Orefield, Pa.), and Rebecca
Fox (So./Middletown, N.J.) each won two events. Rapach won the
50 and 100 frees, Karedis won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, and
Fox won the 1000 and 500 frees.
The
Warriors' first meet against competition from other schools is on
Nov. 2, when the teams travel to Scranton for the MAC Relays.
Lycoming's first home meet is on Nov. 13, versus Misericordia.
