LYCOMING SWIM
TEAMS SWEEP MISERICORDIA
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– Lycoming College hosted College Misericordia, Wednesday
evening, for a non-conference dual meet for both the women’s and
men’s teams. The Warrior women posted a 108.5-88.5 victory, and
the Warrior men defeated the Cougars, 120-62.
Lycoming’s
women swam the fastest time in every event, with eight different
student-athletes claiming individual honors. Sue Slepetz
(Sr./Wescosville, PA; Emmaus) won the 1000 free; Rebecca
Fox (So./Middletown, NJ; Middletown South) finished first in
the 200 free; Jess Amadore (Jr./Easton, PA; Wilson Area)
was the quickest in the 50 free; Kelly Sykes (Fr./Willimantic,
CT; Windham) recorded the fastest time in the 200 IM; Erin
Horsley (So./Allegany, NY; Allegany) won the 100 fly; Andrea
Rapach (Sr./Pittsford, NY; Pittsford Mendon) finished first in
the 100 free; Karissa Brown (So./Chemung, NY; Waverly)
posted the fastest time in the 100 back; and Erin Patrick
(So./Media, PA; Penncrest) was quickest in the 500 free. The
Warriors also had the top times in the 200 medley relay and 200
free relay.
On the men’s
side, Lycoming also swept all the events. Jeff Swatkins
(Fr./Guilford, CT; Xavier) and Dustin Long (Fr./Halifax,
PA; Halifax) led the way with two top finishes each. Swatkins
won the 100 fly and was fastest in the 500 free. Long won the 200
free and was first to finish in the 100 breast. Other Warriors
posting the best time in individual events were: Dave DeZago
(Jr./Sarasota, FL; Tappan Zee) in the 1000 free; Matt
Thompson (Sr./Canisteo, NY; Canisteo Central) in the 50 free; Chris
Mungo (Fr./Boonton, NJ; Boonton) in the 200 IM; Tim Roche
(Fr./Wyndmoor, PA; Springfield) in the 100 free; and Steven
Hawley (Fr./New Cumberland, PA; Trinity) in the 100 back.
Lycoming’s men were also faster than Misericordia in the 200
medley and 200 free relays.
“I’m very
pleased with how we swam tonight,” said Lycoming head coach
Jerry Hammaker. “Two things that most impressed me were how hard
everyone swam, even in some off events; and how close we came to a
number of school records without much rest prior to the meet. I
think both those things set a real good tone for the upcoming
weeks and the season as a whole.”
Lycoming
is at home again for their next meet on Saturday, November 23,
versus conference foe Drew University. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
