LYCOMING SWIM TEAMS BLOW MISERICORDIA OUT OF THE WATER

DALLAS, PA – The Lycoming College women’s and men’s swimming teams turned in an impressive performance at College Misericordia Thursday evening. The women’s team, swimming in their first meet of the season, defeated the Cougars 147-55 despite swimming the last two events as exhibition. The men, in their second contest of the season, swam the final three events as exhibition but won just as convincingly, 109-66.

The Warrior women won 8-of-9 events en route to their victory. Rebecca Fox (Fr./Middletown, NJ; Middletown) had a terrific collegiate debut leading the way with a pair of first-place finishes in the 1000 free and 500 free. Her times in both events broke Lycoming College records and Misericordia pool records.

Andrea Rapach (Jr./Pittsford, NY; Pittsford Mendon) and Karen Turpin (So./West Windsor, NJ; Princeton) each won two events for Lycoming, as well. Rapach was the first swimmer to finish in the 50 free and 100 free, while Turpin won the 200 IM and 100 fly.

Jess Amadore (So./Easton, PA; Wilson) added a victory in the 100 backstroke and Kristin Campbell (Jr./Camp Hill, PA: Cedar Cliff) won the 100 breaststroke to bring the Warriors’ win total to eight.

On the men’s side, Lycoming claimed not only first place in every event, but also the top two spots in seven of the nine individual events. Chris DeZago (So./Sparkill, NY; Tappen Zee), Chris Rager (Sr./Camp Hill, PA; Cumberland Valley), and Josh Hogan (Fr./Waverly, NY; Waverly) each won two events for the Warriors. DeZago covered the distance events winning the 1000 free and 500 free. Rager dominated the sprints with wins in the 50 free and 100 free. Hogan added victories in the 2001 IM and 100 back.

Greg Brown (Sr./Mechanicsburg, PA; Cumberland Valley) and Rob Neil (Jr./Dallas, PA; Dallas) also claimed individual wins in the 200 free and 100 fly, respectively.

“I’m extremely pleased with our performance tonight,” said Lycoming Head Coach Jerry Hammaker. “What a great way to start the dual meet season. I couldn’t have asked for a better all-around showing this early in the year. The was a special type of win and it really sets the tone for our season.”
