WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- Lycoming softball saw its three-game win
streak snapped abruptly at King’s College on Thursday evening,
dropping a pair to the Monarch’s 8-1 and 12-1. The Lady
Warriors fall to 3-5 overall, 0-2 in Freedom Conference play
while King’s moves to 11-3, 2-0.
It was one
of those afternoons when hitting, defense, and pitching were all
off-kilter for the Lady Warriors. Their bats were silent
throughout, combining for only seven hits between the two
games. In comparison, the Monarch’s churned out 18 total hits
including four homeruns split evenly between the two contests.
Junior
catcher Betsy Reese (State College, Pa./State College)
and freshman shortstop Marissa Hastings (Old Forge, Pa./Old
Forge) picked up two hits, one each per ballgame. Hastings
drove in Reese for the Lady Warriors’ lone second-game run with
a single to right in the fourth inning. Freshman designated
player Holly Billow (Millersburg, Pa./Millersburg) picked
a two-out RBI in the first game, bringing in junior outfielder
Melissa McCoy (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) with a
single in the third inning.
Senior
hurler Morgan Mantle (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore)
continues to record nice strikeout numbers with 10 punch-outs in
the first game, but she was roughed up a bit for eight runs, six
earned, on eight hits and three free passes.
Lycoming
looks to get back on track on Saturday, March 25, as the Lady
Warriors welcome Drew University for the home opener at the
Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex. Start time for game one of
the two contest affair is set for 1:00 p.m. |
