Caroselli
Earns Academic Honor
Named CoSIDA
Second Team Academic All-District
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. --- Lycoming softball continued its strong postseason awards
period, but this time the honor including more than athletic
ability. Recently graduated second baseman Christine
Caroselli (Newtown, Pa./Pennsbury) was named to the
CoSIDA
Second Team Academic All-District for her combined efforts in
her studies and on the field.
The Academic All-America program honors more than 800 male and
female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the
highest level on the playing field and in the classroom.
Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA (the College
Sports Information Directors of America), a 2,000 member
organization consisting of sports public relations professionals
for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
Caroselli more
than qualified on both ends. She is a three-time Freedom
Conference all-star, having picked up an All-First Team
selection in 2005 to go with a pair of All-Second Team nods in
2004 and 2006. Arguably the toughest of the Lady Warriors,
Caroselli battled through injury to direct the offense from her
customary lead-off spot this season. She finished the campaign
with a .287 batting average and led the team with five steals.
She eclipsed the .300 plateau twice in her career. Her best
year came in 2005 when she batted at a .372 clip thanks to a
team-best 32 hits in 86 at bats.
As is in any
sport but especially so in softball, defense can make or break a
team from game-to-game and season-to-season. Second base was
not a cause of worry for the coaching staff at any time as
Caroselli flashed outstanding leather each year. In 356 total
fielding chances in four years, she committed only four errors
for an eye-popping .989 career fielding percentage.
Caroselli,
a chemistry major, earned a spot on the Lycoming College Dean’s
List on five different occasions including this past semester.
Twice she garnered Middle Atlantic Conference Academic Honor
Roll status. Caroselli is a member of the Gamma Sigma Alpha
Greek Academic and Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry honor
societies, as well as an active participant in the Lycoming
Chemistry Club. She took part in several community service
ventures including Adopt-A-Highway, Adopt-A-Family, the
Hurricane Katrina Fund, Operation Christmas Child, Relay for
Life, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Original program voting takes place within eight districts
separated throughout the country with any where from two or
three teams selected in the University (NCAA Division I-A and
I-AA) and College (NCAA Division II, III, and NAIA) divisions.
Those on the district first teams become eligible for national
Academic All-America honors.
To be eligible for Academic All-America program consideration, a
student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve,
maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of
4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at
his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports
information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952,
CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than
14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA
covering all NCAA championship sports.
