/ Game 2 Box Score
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. --- Lycoming softball continued its strong run through the
Freedom Conference on Saturday with a pair of victories over the
University of Scranton. The
Lady Warriors downed the Royals 2-0 in game one and came back with
two in the seventh to claim game two 4-3.
Lycoming now stands at 9-5 overall, 6-2 in league play.
Scranton falls to 5-11, 0-4.
Senior
right-hander Morgan Mantle (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore)
picked up a pair of wins in the effort.
Now 6-2 on the season, Mantle threw six strong innings in
game one to record her third shutout of the season.
She allowed only four hits and fanned eight.
In the second game, Mantle relieved senior Kristen Reese
(State College, Pa./State College) in the sixth inning with
two runners on and no outs, only ahead by one run.
Scranton plated one before the end of the frame to tie the
score and added another in the seventh to go up 3-2, but the
Warriors had some last minute heroics up their sleeves.
Mantle led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and
moved up to second on a ground out.
Sophomore Holly Billow (Millersburg, Pa./Millersburg)
followed with a single up the middle to move Mantle over to third.
Reese, pinch running for Billow, advanced to second
unchallenged. Senior Lauren
Wilson (Ontario, Calif./Chino) followed with a single to bring
in Mantle and tie the score 3-3.
Pinch hitter Katie Shaw (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle)
hammered a shot to right to bring in Reese and secure Lycoming’s
4-3 win.
Game one provided much fewer fireworks with the Lady Warriors
in control for the majority of the contest. Junior catcher Betsy Reese (State College, Pa./State
College) brought around junior Melissa McCoy (Williamsport,
Pa./Jersey Shore) with an RBI single in the first.
Lycoming picked up its second run in the third inning.
After sophomore Dana Marek (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield)
singled and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt, Mantle singled
her home to give Lycoming a 2-0 edge.
The Royals threatened in the seventh inning, putting a pair
of runners on base with two outs, but Mantle kept her cool and
closed the door with no harm done.
Lycoming looks to continue its winning ways on Monday, April
3, as the Lady Warriors travel to College Misericodia.
First pitch of game one is set for 3:00 p.m.
