Lycoming
Comes Up Empty in Opener
Nabholz 2-for-3 in
Second Game
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s softball team opened its season at
Shangraw Athletic Complex on Thursday, March 29. The Lady
Warriors dropped both games of the doubleheader to Delaware
Valley by scores of 8-0 and 9-0.
Because of
bad weather, Lycoming only had its first practice on Tuesday.
But by Thursday, the Lady Aggies were in town to play ball. The
Lady Warriors donned new uniforms and started several new faces
on a nice afternoon.
Junior
Holly Billow (Millersburg, PA) had Lycoming’s only hit in
the opener. Junior Dana Marek (Bloomfield, NJ) and senior
Betsy Reese (State College, PA) drew walks, but to no
avail as DVC’s Kirstyn Ruhling ruled from the mound.
Lycoming’s
Katie Shaw (Bellefonte, PA) pitched well early on, giving
up two runs in the first and fourth innings. However Lady Aggie
Kelly Andrews’ homerun in the seventh highlighted a
four-run inning.
Freshman
Jess Nabholz (Cressona, PA) started game two for the Lady
Warriors. She gave up seven runs in four innings, but went
2-for-3 at the plate. Her second hit was a towering double over
the left fielder’s head. Freshman leadoff hitter Missy McCoy
(Williamsport, PA) had a line drive single and a walk, while
Reese smoked a double down the third-base line in the second.
Lycoming
plays away all weekend. On Saturday, the Lady Warriors take on
Scranton at 1:00 p.m. and, on Sunday, they travel to Drew for a
noon doubleheader. Lycoming returns home for an April 6 game
against FDU-Florham. |
