Softball Drops
Two at DeSales CENTER VALLEY, Pa.—Lycoming’s softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to DeSales on Saturday by scores of 8-0 and 9-1. The losses represented a disappointing end to the Lady Warriors’ season. It was the final contest for Lycoming seniors Missy McCoy (Williamsport, PA), Betsy Reese (State College, PA) and Katie Shaw (Bellefonte, PA). DeSales senior Elise Wilk tossed a three hit-shutout in game one and a complete game win in game two. The sweep is the first of the season for the Bulldogs who improve to 11-15 overall and 5-7 in the Freedom Conference, while the losses drop the Warriors to 1-13 overall and 1-13 in the Freedom Conference. In the opening contest, Lycoming junior Hilarie Powers (Wellsboro, PA) had a hit and a walk, while sophomore Marissa Hastings (Old Forge, PA) also had a hit. Lycoming's McCoy was 1-for-3. Lady Bulldog freshman Kerri Andrews had a grand slam home run in the third inning. In game two, Wilk was one out away from tossing her third straight complete-game shutout but settled for a complete-game win. Lady Warrior catcher Reese knocked in a run in the final frame to spoil the streak. McCoy was hot in her final game, going 2-for-3, while junior Dana Marek (Bloomfield, NJ) was 2-for-2. DeSales’ Wilk is just 15 strikeouts away from becoming the second DeSales player ever to record 200+ K’s in a career.
