Lycoming
Falls Twice to FDU-Florham
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa.—Lycoming’s softball team (1-7, 1-7) dropped both ends of a doubleheader
to FDU-Florham (14-8, 6-0) on Good Friday by scores of 5-1 and 15-0.
The Lady
Warriors seemed to find some of their missing offense in game
one. Missy McCoy (Williamsport, PA), Betsy Reese (State
College) and Lauren Carey (Old Forge, PA) each had
singles, while Jessica Nabholz (Cressona, PA) reached
based twice.
Katie Shaw
(Bellefonte, PA)
pitched
nobly but gave up home runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
Her battery mate, Reese, scored Lycoming’s only run in the
bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game 1-1.
In game two,
pitcher Nicole Rhodes (Julian, PA) started her first game
of the season for the blue and gold. Unfortunately she took the
full tally in the lopsided loss. FDU-Florham
hit
five home runs.
Head coach
Christen Ditzler argued a fourth-inning dinger, but to no
avail. The shot in question was initially caught by left fielder
Hilarie Powers (Wellsboro, PA) who proceeded to go
through the temporary outfield fence. The umpires ruled that she
did not have control and the ball fell on the other side of the
fence.
Powers came
back and pounded a long double in the fifth, but Lycoming could
not capitalize. The game was called after the fifth because of
the eight-run rule.
The Lady
Warriors suit up again next Wednesday, April 11 at home against
King’s College. The doubleheader starts at 3:00 p.m. |
