WARRIOR SOFTBALL SWEEPS SECOND CONSECUTIVE FREEDOM DOUBLEHEADER

MADISON, N.J. – The Lycoming College softball team traveled to FDU-Florham, Friday afternoon, for a Freedom Conference doubleheader. The Warriors swept both games from the Devils, winning the first game 2-0 and the second game 5-0. Lycoming improves to 10-10 overall and 4-4 within the conference. FDU falls to 9-10 and 1-7.

In the opening game, Amanda Gery (Jr./Whitehall, Pa.; Whitehall) pitched a one-hit shutout to lead the Warriors, striking out eight batters. Christine Caroselli (So./Newtown, Pa.; Pennsbury) doubled in the second inning to drive in Marianne Simpson (Jr./Camp Hill, Pa.; Camp Hill) for the only run Lycoming would need. In the sixth inning, Melissa McCoy (Fr./Williamsport, Pa.; Jersey Shore) singled to drive in Simpson for an insurance run.

In the second game, Morgan Mantle (So./Jersey Shore, Pa.; Jersey Shore) equaled Gery’s gem, tossing another one-hit shutout while striking out 10 batters. The Warriors scored all five of their runs with two outs in the fifth inning. Mantle walked to get things started. Simpson and Caroselli then singled to load the bases. McCoy reached on an error that allowed two runs to score. Jen Shaffer (Sr./Waterville, Pa.; Jersey Shore) then doubled to drive in two more runs, and scored Lycoming’s final run on a single by Jana Reitz (Jr./Waynesboro, Pa.; Waynesboro).

The Warriors will be in action again on Monday, April 12, when they travel to Penn State-Altoona.
