WARRIOR SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH D’YOUVILLE

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College softball team hosted D’Youville College, Tuesday afternoon, for a non-conference doubleheader. The Warriors split with the Spartans, winning the first game 4-2 before falling 2-4 in the second game. Lycoming moves to 6-10 overall this season, while D’Youville moves to 1-2.

In the opening game, the Warriors scored four unearned runs in the sixth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit and then hang on for the victory. Betsy Reese (Fr./Centre Hall, Pa.; State College) collected a hit, drove in a run, and scored a run for Lycoming. Katie Shaw (Fr./Bellefonte, Pa.; Bald Eagle) and Alicia Madigan (Jr./Waverly, N.Y.; Waverly) each tallied one hit and one RBI, as well. Melissa McCoy (Fr./Williamsport, Pa.; Williamsport) accounted for the Warriors fourth hit and also scored a run.

Kristen Reese (So./Centre Hall, Pa.; State College) picked up the victory for Lycoming, pitching seven innings allowing just three hits and one earned run. Reese struck out six batters.

In the second game, each team scored two runs in their first at-bats, but D’Youville added runs in the fourth and sixth innings to secure the split. Amy Curry (Jr./Fallentimber, Pa.; Moshannon Valley) went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Jen Shaffer (Sr./Waterville, Pa.; Jersey Shore) also drove in a run.

Katie Shaw suffered the loss on the mound, allowing three runs in three innings of work. Morgan Mantle (So./Jersey Shore, Pa.; Jersey Shore) pitched the last four innings in relief, allowing one unearned run on six hits while striking out three.

The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday, April 7, when they travel to Delaware Valley College for a conference doubleheader.
