WARRIOR SOFTBALL DROPS DOUBLEHEADER TO WILKES

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College softball team hosted Wilkes University, Saturday afternoon, for a Freedom Conference doubleheader. The Warriors struggled from the plate and could not generate enough offense to pick up a victory as the Colonels won both games, 1-0 and 5-1. Lycoming falls to 5-7 overall this season, and Wilkes improves to 6-8.

The Warriors managed just two hits in the opening game of the twinbill, while Laurie Agresti recorded 15 strikeouts for the Colonels. Wilkes pushed the game’s lone run across in the third inning and hung on for the victory. Jana Reitz (Jr./Waynesboro, Pa.; Waynesboro) and Christine Caroselli (So./Newtown, Pa.; Pennsbury) accounted for Lycoming’s hits. Morgan Mantle (So./Jersey Shore, Pa.; Jersey Shore) suffered the loss on the mound, despite striking out nine and not allowing an earned run.

In the second game, the Colonels scored a run in each of their first two at-bats and then added insurance with two runs in the fourth and another in the sixth. The Warriors were held scoreless until their final at-bat when Stefanie Clugston (So./North Wales, Pa.; North Penn) drove in Katie Shaw (Fr./Bellefonte, Pa.; Bald Eagle) to get the home team on the board. Lycoming got the tying run to the plate with the base loaded, but could not come up with a hit to extend the game.

Jen Trate recorded the win for Wilkes, scattering seven hits. Amanda Gery (Jr./Whitehall, Pa.; Whitehall) suffered the loss allowing three earned runs on nine hits.

The Warriors will play again on Thursday, April 1, when they travel to King’s College to face the defending conference champion Monarchs.
