WARRIOR SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLE-DIP WITH KEYSTONE

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College softball team hosted Keystone College, Tuesday afternoon, for a non-conference doubleheader. The Warriors split with the Giants winning the first game 9-0 in five innings, but falling in the second game 7-6. Lycoming is now 12-14 overall this season. Keystone moves to 6-13.

In the opening game, the Warriors got out of the gate fast, scoring seven runs in the first inning. They went on to add one run each in the second and fourth innings and held the Giants scoreless to claim the five-inning victory. Morgan Mantle (So./Jersey Shore, Pa.; Jersey Shore) pitched a complete-game one-hitter, striking out six batters. Mantle also collected two hits and scored a run. Morgan Rudelitch (So./Lehighton, Pa.; Lehighton) recorded two hits, as well, while driving in a run and scoring a run. Four other players had one hit apiece and five other players had one RBI apiece for Lycoming. The Warriors were also aided by four Keystone errors.

In the second game, it was the Giants who got off to a quick start, posting six runs in the opening frame. Keystone tacked on another run in the third inning, that would prove to be the difference at game’s end. Lycoming attempted a comeback, scoring a single run in the third and fourth inning before pulling within two with a three-run sixth inning. In their final at-bats, the Warriors added one run, but could not tie the game suffering the 7-6 loss.

Kristen Reese (So./Centre Hall, Pa.; State College) started the game and took the loss. She tossed two innings, giving up seven runs on five hits, but was not helped by her defense as only three of the runs were earned. Amanda Gery (Jr./Whitehall, Pa.; Whitehall) finished the game, allowing just three hits over the final five innings. Christine Caroselli (So./Newtown, Pa.; Pennsbury) led Lycoming’s offense with two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. Amy Curry (Jr./Fallentimber, Pa.; Moshannon Valley) added a double that drove in two runs.

The Warriors play at home again on Thursday, April 22, when they host Juniata College at 3 p.m.
