LYCOMING SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH DREW

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College softball team hosted Drew University, Saturday afternoon, for a Freedom Conference doubleheader. The Warriors split with the Rangers, winning the first game 4-3 in 12 innings before falling by a score of 4-3 in the second game. Lycoming is now 11-13 overall and 5-7 within the conference. Drew moves to 18-10 and 4-4.

In the opening game, the Warriors scored in the first and sixth innings, but the Rangers matched their total with a run in the third and another in the sixth. After four scoreless extra-innings, Drew broke through with a run the top of the 12th for a 3-2 lead. Lycoming, however, scored two runs in the bottom of the frame on an error by the Rangers’ third baseman.

Morgan Mantle (So./Jersey Shore, Pa.; Jersey Shore) pitched the entire game for the Warriors, giving up five hits and two earned runs while striking out 10 batters. Jana Reitz (Jr./Waynesboro, Pa.; Waynesboro) led the offense with two hits. Jen Shaffer (Sr./Waterville, Pa.; Jersey Shore) added a hit, a run, and an RBI. Christine Caroselli (So./Newtown, Pa.; Pennsbury) and Morgan Rudelitch (So./Lehighton, Pa.; Lehighton) each tallied hits, as well.

In game two, Drew opened up a 3-0 lead with a run in the third and two in the fourth. Lycoming pulled within one with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, only to have the Rangers add an insurance run in the seventh. That run proved crucial as the Warriors plated one run in the bottom of the frame, but could not complete the comeback, falling 4-3.

Kristen Reese (So./Centre Hall, Pa.; State College) started the game and worked three-and-a-third innings. She gave up four hits and two earned runs. Amanda Gery (Jr./Whitehall, Pa.; Whitehall) finished the game and suffered the loss, despite allowing just two hits and an unearned run. Reitz, Shaffer, and Rudelitch each claimed one of Lycoming’s three hits. Shaffer, Mantle, and Melissa McCoy (Fr./Williamsport, Pa.; Jersey Shore) each drove in a run.

The Warriors take a break from conference action on Tuesday, April 20, when they host Keystone College.
