LYCOMING SOFTBALL SPLITS THIRD CONSECUTIVE DOUBLEHEADER

ANNVILLE, PA – The Lycoming College softball team traveled to Lebanon Valley College, Thursday afternoon, for another non-conference doubleheader. The Warriors defeated the Flying Dutchmen, 8-1, in the opening game, but fell 4-2 in a darkness-shortened second game. Lycoming is now 9-7-1 overall this season. Lebanon Valley moves to 4-5 overall.

The Warriors used a seven-run seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie to win the opening game. Lycoming wracked up 11 hits in the contest led by Miranda Newcomer (Jr./Newfoundland, PA; Wallenpaupack) with two doubles and two RBI. Amy Curry (So./Fallentimber, PA; Moshannon Valley), Christine Caroselli (Fr./Newtown, PA; Pennsbury), and Marianne Simpson (So./Camp Hill, PA; Camp Hill) each collected two hits apiece, as well.

Amanda Gery (So./Whitehall, PA; Whitehall) recorded a complete game from the center of the diamond, allowing just four hits and striking out nine batters without giving up an earned run. Gery is now 4-1 on the season.

Game two of the doubleheader was cut to five innings due to darkness. The Flying Dutchmen took advantage, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to steal the victory. Newcomer again led the Warrior offense by going 2-for-3 with a run-batted-in. Alicia Madigan (So./Waverly, NY; Waverly) went 2-for-2 and scored a run.

Kristen Reese (Fr./Centre Hall, PA; State College) pitched four-and-a-third innings, giving up just two hits but allowing four runs. Morgan Mantle (Fr./Jersey Shore, PA; Jersey Shore) tossed two-thirds of an inning in relief.

Lycoming will return to conference competition on Saturday, April 5, when they travel to the University of Scranton. The first of two games will begin at 1 p.m.
