LYCOMING SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH MISERICORDIA

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College softball team hosted the College Misericordia, Monday afternoon, for a non-conference doubleheader. The Warriors and Cougars split the twinbill with Lycoming winning the opener, 4-3 in eight innings, and Misericordia taking the nightcap, 5-2. The Warriors are now 7-5-1 overall this season. The Cougars move to 10-6.

In Lycoming’s victory, Marianne Simpson (So./Camp Hill, PA; Camp Hill) and Christine Caroselli (Fr./Newtown, PA; Pennsbury) each recorded a pair of hits and scored two runs. Kathryn Viebrock (Fr./Fogelsville, PA; Northwestern Lehigh) added a two-run double in the fourth inning. Jess Feerrar (Sr./Lock Haven, PA; Lock Haven) drove in the game-winning run with a pitch-hit sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth.

Morgan Mantle (Fr./Jersey Shore, PA; Jersey Shore) recorded the victory on the mound for the Warriors. She worked all eight innings, allowing just five hits and two earned runs while striking out nine.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Lycoming scored two runs in the first but could not add on as Misericordia came from behind for the win. Simpson, Viebrock, and Jackie Chestnut (Fr./Williamsport, PA; Williamsport) accounted for all three of the Warriors’ hits.

Kristin Reese (Fr./Centre Hall, PA; State College) allowed just three hits and three earned runs in seven innings but picked up the loss for Lycoming.

The Warriors are at home again on Wednesday, April 2, when they host Messiah College for a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
