WARRIOR SOFTBALL WINS ONE, TIES ONE VERSUS SUSQUEHANNA

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College softball team hosted Susquehanna University, Wednesday afternoon, for a non-conference doubleheader. The Warriors won the opening game by a score of 3-2 in eight innings. The second game was called after six innings due to darkness with the score tied at 0-0. Lycoming is now 6-4-1 overall this season. The Crusaders fall to 3-4-1.

In the first game, Susquehanna got on the board first with an unearned run in the third inning. The Warriors tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when Jana Reitz (Fr./Waynesboro, PA; Waynesboro) led off with a homerun. The Crusaders went ahead 2-1 in the top off the eighth, but Lycoming scored a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to grab the victory. Kathryn Viebrock (Fr./Fogelsville, PA; Northwestern Lehigh) drove home the winning run with a single.

Amanda Gery (So./Whitehall, PA; Whitehall) picked up the win for the Warriors, allowing four hits and two unearned runs in eight innings. She also struck out nine batters.

In the second game, Lycoming’s Morgan Mantle (Fr./Jersey Shore, PA; Jersey Shore) and Susquehanna’s Heather Litzebauer (So./Red Bank, NJ; Middletown South) were locked in a pitcher’s duel when the game was called on account of darkness. Mantle allowed just three hits in six innings while striking out three batters. Litzebauer gave up six hits and struck out five in six innings of work.

The Warriors are in action again on Saturday, March 29, when they play host to FDU-Florham. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
