SOFTBALL SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER VERSUS PENN STATE ALTOONA
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College softball team hosted Penn State Altoona,
Tuesday afternoon, for a non-conference doubleheader. The Warriors
swept the twin bill, shutting the Cougars out, 7-0, in the opening
game, and taking the nightcap, 5-2. Lycoming improves to 5-4
overall this season. Penn State Altoona drops to 3-7-1.
In the first
game, Jackie Chestnut (Fr./Williamsport, PA; Williamsport)
hit two homeruns in consecutive at-bats to lead the Warriors. For
the game, she went 2-for-3 with four runs-batted-in. Christine
Caroselli (Fr./Newtown, PA; Pennsbury) and Katy Kresge
(Jr./Lehighton, PA; Marian Catholic) each drove in a run as
well.
Morgan Mantle
(Fr./Jersey Shore, PA; Jersey Shore)
recorded her second consecutive shutout, allowing just four hits
while striking out seven in seven innings. Mantle has now pitched
35 innings this season without allowing an earned run.
Chestnut had
another strong performance in the second game of the doubleheader,
driving in another run on a pair of hits. Jessica Feerrar
(Sr./Lock Haven, PA; Lock Haven) went 3-for-3 at the plate and
also drove in a run. Jana Reitz (Fr./Waynesboro, PA;
Waynesboro) and Jen Shaffer (Jr./Waterville, PA; Jersey
Shore) each chipped in two hits.
Freshman Kristen
Reese (Centre Hall, PA; State College) recorded the victory on
the mound for the Warriors. In seven innings, she allowed eight
hits and two runs.
Lycoming is in
action again on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Susquehanna
University for another non-conference doubleheader. The first
pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
