WARRIOR SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER AT DREW

MADISON, NJ – The Lycoming College softball team traveled to Drew University, Saturday afternoon, for their first conference doubleheader of the season. The Warriors split with the Rangers, winning the first game 1-0 in eight innings, and falling in the second game 5-0. Lycoming is now 3-4 overall on the season. Drew moves to 9-6.

In the opening game, Morgan Mantle (Fr./Jersey Shore, PA; Jersey Shore) was nearly flawless on the mound for the Warriors. In eight innings she allowed just two hits while striking out nine en route to the shutout. Marianne Simpson (So./Camp Hill, PA; Camp Hill) played the hero on offense, driving in the winning run with a single in the eighth inning. Jen Shaffer (Jr./Waterville, PA; Jersey Shore) scored the game-winning run and recorded one hit in the game. Morgan Rudelitch (Fr./Lehighton, PA; Lehighton) also tallied a base hit in the contest.

In game two of the twinbill, it was the Ranger’s Alison Robbins who recorded the shutout while holding Lycoming to just five hits. Jackie Chestnut (Fr./Williamsport, PA; Williamsport) had two of those hits in three at-bats. Amy Curry (So./Fallentimber, PA; Moshannon Valley) and Jess Feerrar (Sr./Lock Haven, PA; Lock Haven) each recorded doubles; and Katy Kresge (Jr./Lehighton, PA; Marian Catholic) added a single.

Amanda Gery (So./Whitehall, PA; Whitehall) started on the mound for the Warriors and gave up four runs on eight hits in three innings. Mantle worked the final three innings, giving up two hits and an unearned run.

Lycoming will play their first home game of the season on Tuesday, March 25, when they host Penn State-Altoona for a non-conference doubleheader.
