WARRIOR
SOFTBALL SWEPT BY BULLDOGS
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College softball team traveled to DeSales
University, Saturday afternoon, for a Freedom Conference
doubleheader. The Warriors had their eight-game winning streak
snapped as the Bulldogs took both games. DeSales won the opener
4-3, and the nightcap 3-0. Lycoming drops to 17-9-1 overall this
season and 9-3 in the conference. The Bulldogs improve to 13-7 and
9-3.
In the first
game of the doubleheader, DeSales used a four-run seventh inning,
including a three-run homerun, to steal the victory. The Warriors
were led by Jess Feerrar (Sr./Lock Haven, PA; Lock Haven)
who was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Marianne Simpson
(So./Camp Hill, PA; Camp Hill) was 2-for-4 and also scored a
run. Four other players had hits for Lycoming.
Morgan
Mantle (Fr./Jersey Shore, PA; Jersey Shore)
handled the pitching responsibilities for the Warriors. She worked
six-and-two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and four runs
while striking out three.
In the second
game, Lycoming was shutout, recording only four hits in the
contest. Miranda Newcomer (Jr./Newfoundland, PA; Wallenpaupack)
led the squad with two hits. Amy Curry (So./Fallentimber, PA;
Moshannon Valley) and Simpson accounted for the other two
hits.
Amanda Gery
(So./Whitehall, PA; Whitehall)
was on the mound for the Warriors, giving up three runs on eight
hits in six innings. She also struck out four batters.
Lycoming
will travel to Juniata College on Tuesday, April 22, for a
non-conference doubleheader.
