LYCOMING
SOFTBALL SWEEPS PENN STATE ALTOONA
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College softball team hosted Penn State
Altoona, Sunday afternoon, for a non-conference doubleheader. The
Warriors picked up a pair of wins, defeating the Cougars 5-1 in
the first game and 3-2 in the second game. Lycoming improves to
13-8 overall with the victories. Penn State Altoona drops to 11-7.
The Warriors
jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening game and never looked back
behind the strong pitching of Amanda Gery (Fr./Whitehall, PA;
Whitehall). Gery allowed just three hits and one run over
seven innings, while striking out eight.
Amy Curry
(Fr./Fallentimber, PA; Moshannon Valley)
led the offense by driving in three runs. Adrienne Wydra
(Sr./Ashland, PA; North Shcuylkill) collected three hits in
the game while Marianne Simpson (Fr./Camp Hill, PA; Camp Hill)
and Katie Kresge (So./Lehighton, PA; Marian Catholic) each
added two hits.
Kresge was the
hero of the second game driving in the game-winning run with a
bloop single in the bottom of the seventh after the two teams had
been deadlocked at 2-2. Miranda Newcomer (So./Newfoundland, PA;
Wallenpaupack) had two hits in the game and drove in a run.
Curry had a double and an RBI, and Wydra scored two runs including
the game winner.
Gery recorded
her second victory of the day, tossing the final two innings in
relief of Crystal Hampton
(So./Catawissa, PA; Southern Columbia). Hampton went five innings, allowing four hits and two runs while
striking out a pair. Gery did not allow a hit in her brief
appearance.
Lycoming
will be at home again for their next contest as they host Juniata
College on Wednesday, April 10. The first game of the
non-conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
