LYCOMING SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH MESSIAH

GRANTHAM, PA – The Lycoming College softball team traveled to Messiah College, Tuesday afternoon, for a non-conference doubleheader. The Warriors returned home with a split, winning the first game 3-0, but dropping the second game 2-1. Lycoming is now 10-7 overall. The Falcons move to 10-10.

In the opening game, Amy Curry (Fr./Fallentimber, PA; Moshannon Valley) hit a two-run homerun in the first inning to provide all the offense the Warriors would need. Marianne Simpson (Fr./Camp Hill, PA; Camp Hill) drove in an insurance run in the fifth inning. Adrienne Wydra (Sr./Ashland, PA; North Schuylkill) collected two hits and scored two runs in the game. Gloria Neeld (So./Sewell, NJ; Washington Township) and Dara Dietrich (Sr./Pitman, PA; Tri-Valley) also collected a hit each.

Amanda Gery (Fr./Whitehall, PA; Whitehall) went the distance on the mound striking out three batters and giving up only four hits. She also recorded her fourth consecutive shutout and extended her streak of scoreless innings to 32.

In the nightcap, Curry again drove in a run in the opening frame, but this time it was not enough as Messiah scored two runs in the second, eventually winning by that score. Katie Kresge (So./Lehighton, PA; Marian Catholic) was 2-for-3 with a double. Simpson also tallied a double and scored the Warriors’ lone run.

Gery again pitched a complete game, suffering her first loss in five outings. In six innings, she struck out three and gave up six hits. While her scoreless inning streak came to an end at 33, both runs were unearned – giving her 38 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.

Lycoming is in action again on Saturday, April 6, when they host the University of Scranton for a conference doubleheader. The first game is schedule for 1 p.m.
