WARRIOR SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH DREW

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – For the third consecutive outing, the Lycoming College softball split a doubleheader on their home field. The Warriors hosted Drew University, Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 1-0, but dropping the second game 3-1. Lycoming is now 7-6 overall and 2-2 within the MAC Freedom Conference. The Rangers move to 7-6 overall as well.

In the opening game, the Warriors used some fundamentals and an error by Drew to score the game’s lone run in the first inning. Adrienne Wydra (Sr./Ashland, PA; North Schuylkill) was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning and then moved to second on a sacrifice by Jessica Feerrar (Jr./Lock Haven, PA; Lock Haven). Wydra scored two batters later on an error by the Rangers’ center fielder. That was all the offense Lycoming could produce but it was all they needed behind the strong pitching of Amanda Gery (Fr./Whitehall, PA; Whitehall). Gery worked all seven innings, allowing just one hit and striking out six batters. Erica Mehalick picked up the loss for Drew despite pitching a no-hitter.

In the second game, the Warriors again took a 1-0 lead, this time in the fifth inning. Katie Kresge (So./Lehighton, PA; Marian Catholic) led off the inning with a single and was moved around on a pair of Ranger errors. Drew, however, responded with three runs of their own in the sixth inning. Four singles and an outfield error by Lycoming led to the runs. Tara Duffy got the win allowing just four hits and a run while striking out four. Laurie Rooney (So./Audubon, NJ; Audubon) suffered the loss for the Warriors despite giving up just four hits.

Lycoming is back in action on Tuesday, March 26, when they travel to Susquehanna University.
