SOFTBALL DEFEATS ELIZABETHTOWN
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College softball team took a break from
conference competition to host Elizabethtown College for a single
game, Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors plated one run in the
first inning and played solid defense behind a two-hit shutout by Amanda
Gery (Fr./Whitehall, PA; Whitehall) for the 1-0 victory.
Lycoming improves to 17-11 overall with the win. The Blue Jays
fall to 24-9 on the season.
Senior Adrienne
Wydra (Ashland, PA; North Schuylkill) led off the Warriors’
half of the first with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice
by Marianne Simpson (Fr./Camp Hill, PA; Camp Hill). Simpson
was safe at first due to an error on the second baseman. Jessica
Feerrar (Jr./Lock Haven, PA; Lock Haven) moved both runners up
with another sacrifice. Amy Curry (Fr./Fallentimber, PA;
Moshannon Valley) then drove home the game’s lone run on a
single.
Gery did the
rest, striking out six batters while allowing just two hits.
Elizabethtown failed to advance a runner beyond second base in the
contest. Gery is now 12-5 on the season with a 1.28 ERA.
Lycoming will
be in action again on Thursday, when they travel to College
Misericordia for another non-conference game.
