LYCOMING SWEEPS SOFTBALL DOUBLEHEADER AT
PENN STATE-ALTOONA

ALTOONA, PA – The Lycoming College softball team traveled to Penn State-Altoona, Wednesday afternoon, for a non-conference doubleheader. The Warriors came home with a pair of victories, shutting the Cougars out, 8-0, in the opener and then holding on for a 4-3 decision in the nightcap. Lycoming improves to 4-3 with the wins. PS-Altoona opens the season at 0-2.

Jessica Feerrar (Jr./Lock Haven, PA; Lock Haven) provided the offensive punch in the first game with a three-run homerun. Adrienne Wydra (Sr./Ashland, PA; North Schuylkill) and Amy Curry (Fr./Fallentimber, PA; Moshannon Valley) each added two hits.

Freshman Amanda Gery (Whitehall, PA; Whitehall) went the distance on the mound to pick up her second victory of the season. In seven innings she allowed just one hit while striking out five batters.

In the second game, the Warriors withstood a three-run rally by the Cougars in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the one-run victory. Laurie Rooney (So./Audubon, NJ; Audubon) collected two hits for Lycoming, while also picking up the win from the mound. She went seven innings giving up four hits and recording a pair of strikeouts. Feerrar chipped in with a hit and her fourth run-batted-in of the afternoon. Curry, Miranda Newcomer (So./Newfoundland, PA; Wallenpaupack), and Katie Kresge (So./Lehighton, PA; Marian Catholic) also added singles.

The Warriors will begin play in the Middle Atlantic Freedom Conference on Saturday when they host DeSales University in their home opener. The first game of the twin bill is scheduled for 1 p.m.
