WARRIOR
TENNIS TEAM FALLS TO FDU-MADISON
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s tennis team had their
three-match winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon,
falling to FDU-Madison 5-2. The Warriors won a pair of singles
matches and one doubles match in the loss. Lycoming completes
their season with a record of 3-4 overall and 3-3 within the MAC
Freedom Conference.
In
doubles play, Scott Moerschbacher (Sr./Montoursville;
Montoursville)
teamed with Joe Connell (Jr./Chambersburg; Chambersburg)
to defeat the Devils’ number one doubles team of Brian Gonsar
and Joe Panchenko, 8-2. FDU, however, won at second and third
doubles to claim the team doubles point.
Moerschbacher
picked up his second win of the day at first singles. He topped
Gonsar, again, by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Bernardo Urdaneta
(Fr./Maracaibo, Venezuela; Claret)
claimed Lycoming’s other singles win, defeating Panchenko at
second singles, 6-3, 6-3. The Devils won third through sixth
singles to win the match 5-2.
The
Warriors’ top six players will compete in the Middle Atlantic
Conference individual tournament next weekend in Wilkes-Barre.
Moerschbacher and Urdaneta will compete in the singles tournament.
Andy Slawecki (So./Trappe; Perkiomen Valley)
will team with Colin Gabler (So./Camp Hill; Trinity)
and Connell will be paired with Jason Mathews (Fr./North
Wales; Christopher Dock)
for the doubles tournament. King’s College and Wilkes University
are co-hosting the individual championships.
