TENNIS WINS SECOND CONSECUTIVE MATCH

VALLEY, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s tennis team evened
their conference record at 2-2 on the season with a 4-3 victory over DeSales
University, Wednesday afternoon. The win was the Warriors’
second in a row by a score of 4-3.
Lycoming is now 2-3 overall on the season.
Lycoming
claimed 2-of-3 doubles matches to open the contest. Bernardo
Urdaneta (Fr./Maracaibo, Venezuela; Claret)
teamed with Jason Mathews (Fr./North Wales; Christopher
Dock)
at first doubles to defeat John Abshire and Matt Curtolo, 7-5 in a
tiebreaker after an 8-8 set. Andy Slawecki (So./Trappe;
Perkiomen Valley)
and Colin Gabler (So./Camp Hill; Trinity)
also won, topping Josh Husak and Ryan Beller, 8-2 at third
doubles.
In
singles play, the Warriors split with the Bulldogs, winning 3-of-6
matches. Urdaneta won his second match of the day over Abshire;
3-6, 6-3, 6-2; at first doubles. Mathews also was a two-match
winner, defeating Fred Mattrey, 7-5, 6-3 at fourth singles. Gabler
rounded out Lycoming’s singles winners with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1
victory over Brian Puglisi at the fifth position.
The
Warriors return to action following the Easter holidays, when they
host FDU-Madison on Tuesday, April 17.
