Byerly Earns
First Team All-Conference
Senior Warrior Ready for
Individual MACs
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa.—Lycoming tennis player Mike Byerly (West Milton,
PA/Lewisburg) was selected first team All-Freedom Conference for
his impressive play in 2007.
Byerly, a
senior, has been a Warrior tennis mainstay for four seasons and was
recognized as second team all-conference in 2006. His 2-4 record
this year belies the fact that his competition at number-one singles
was intense.
The highlight of
Byerly’s singles season came against fellow first team
all-conference Adam Geiger of FDU-Florham. Byerly dismantled Geiger
in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 at Bruce Henry Park. The two may meet
again at the individual MAC playoffs on Saturday, April 28 at Wilkes
University.
Byerly also
played number-one doubles with an array of partners. He and John
Stutzman (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) compiled a 3-1 record on
the season.
Head men’s
tennis coach John Dorner said, “I’m proud of Mike and the
improvement he’s shown over his career. This past year, his hard
work really paid off. He’s a good guy and we’re happy to have had
him here at Lycoming.”
