Lycoming Tennis Downed by King’s
Byerly/Stutzman
Team Grab Sole Win
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa.—Lycoming’s men’s tennis team was defeated by MAC
foe King’s 7-1 on Thursday. Lycoming’s only victory
was by its top doubles team consisting of senior
Mike Byerly (West Milton, PA/Lewisburg) and
sophomore John Stutzman (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock).
In
singles, Byerly fell to Division I transfer
Michael Portonova 7-5, 6-1. Portonova, a
two-time MAC champion, is 48-1 over two seasons and
only lost one set in 2005.
Stutzman returned for Lycoming from injury, while
junior John Scarangello (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl)
gave King’s number-four a run, winning the middle
set.
The remainder of Lycoming’s matches will be away
this season at Wilkes on April 10 and at Scranton on
April 14.
