Warriors Hammer Susquehanna for First Win
Lyco Wins Five Singles, Two Doubles Tilts

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Lycoming men’s tennis busted out of its early season woes in Sophomore Michael Byerly races to the sideline for a return in his #1 singles match.resounding fashion with a 6-1 drubbing of Susquehanna University on Thursday afternoon at Bruce Henry Park.  Lycoming improves to 1-2 on the season while the Crusaders fall to 0-7.

Junior Ryan Horsely (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany Central) was the first Warrior to claim victory, defeating Todd Adams 6-1, 6-1 at number-two singles.  Four other singles triumphs followed led by sophomore Michael Byerly’s (West Milton, Pa./Lewisburg) 6-1, 6-2 win over Steve Kane in the number-one match.

Sophomores John Scarangello (Nazareth, Pa./Pen Argyl) and Colin Baier (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) also picked up straight set victories.  Scarangello beat Seth Podell at number-four singles 6-2, 6-1 while Baier secured a number-five singles win over Andrew Symonette 6-3, 6-4.  Junior Nicholas Nastasi (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands) used an extra set to upend Ben Grassi 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 from the sixth position.

The Warriors picked up the doubles point by winning at first and second doubles.  Byerly and Horsely held off a strong effort from Adams and Kane with an 8-6 triumph.  Baier and freshman John Stutzman (South Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) earned an 8-4 win over Symonette and Cooper Stewart.

Lycoming looks to make it two straight on Saturday, April 1, as the Warriors welcome Drew University to Williamsport.  Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Bruce Henry Park.  If the weather forces play inside, the match will take place at the West Branch Tennis Club in South Williamsport.
