Warrior Tennis Falls at King's
Ayers Picks Up First Team Singles Victory
WILKES-BARRE,
Pa. --- Lycoming men’s tennis took to the courts for only the
second time this season and showed marked improvement from its
first outing, but the Warriors’ efforts weren’t enough to top
King’s College as Lycoming fell to the Monarch’s 6-1 on
Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors fall to 0-2 on the season
while King’s moves to 3-6.
Lycoming’s
early season schedule may have started later than some of its
opponents, but the squad soon will make-up its missed court
time. The Warriors open the season with four matches in an
eight day stretch, marking a quick turnaround from preseason
practices to live action.
Sophomore
Craig Ayers (Milton, Pa./Milton) picked up the first Warrior
singles victory of the campaign, downing Matt Dunne 6-4,
6-2 from the third position. Freshman John Stutzman
(Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) was close to pushing his
number-four singles opponent to a third set, but Brett Shipe
won the second-set tiebreaker to claim the match 6-5, 7-6.
Lycoming opens
the home portion of its schedule on Thursday, March 30, as the
Warriors welcome Susquehanna University to Williamsport. Match
time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Bruce Henry Park.
