Men's Tennis Drops Season Opener
FDU-Florham Shuts Out Warriors

MADISON, N.J. --- Lycoming men’s tennis opened its 2006 season in an unfortunate fashion, losing to FDU-Florham 7-0 in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.  The Warriors record stands at 0-1 overall, 0-1 in league play while the Devils move to 7-2 overall.

Having already played eight matches, FDU had match experience on their side against Lycoming.  The Warriors had yet to face anyone but themselves prior to Saturday, making the challenge of playing a seasoned team that much more daunting.

Juniors Michael Byerly (West Milton, Pa./Lewisburg) and Ryan Horsley (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany Central) recorded the first Lycoming single-match victory of the season, upending Adam Geiger and Yiannis Ioannides 8-6 at number-one doubles.  Horsley also faired the best in singles action, working Frank Geiger to 6-3 in the first set before falling 6-1 in the second at number-one singles.

Lycoming looks to break into the win column on Wednesday, March 29, as the Warriors travel to King’s College for a Freedom Conference showdown.  Match time is set for 3:00 p.m.
