Warriors Belt DeSales for Second Win
Pick Up First Conference Victory of the Season

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --- Lycoming men’s tennis picked up its second victory of the season and first in Freedom Conference play as the Warriors hammered DeSales University 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon.  Lycoming now stands at 2-4 overall, 1-3 in league play.  The Bulldogs fall to 0-6, 0-4.

Junior Michael Byerly (West Milton, Pa./Lewisburg) got things started with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Antony May at #1 singles.  Sophomore Craig Ayers (Milton, Pa./Milton) did the same at #2 singles, but required an extra set to trounce Ernie Justice 3-6, 6-3, 10-7.

After surrendering a tough tie-break decision at #3 singles, the Warriors picked up a trio of straight set wins to take 5-of-6 individual matches.  Sophomore John Scarangello (Nazareth, Pa./Pen Argyl) had little trouble at the #4 spot, winning 6-2, 6-0 over Jon Kindred.  Fellow second-year man Colin Baier (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) tripped up Mike Noeger 6-3, 6-4 at #5 singles, and junior Nick Nastasi (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands Reg.) had little trouble from the #6 position in defeating Chris Antoni 6-1, 6-1.

The Warriors picked victories at #1 and #3 doubles to secure the extra team point.  Byerly and freshman John Stutzman (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) took care of May and Justice 8-5 from the top spot.  Baier and Nastasi followed suit with an 8-5 triumph over Noeger and Antoni at #3 doubles.

Lycoming looks to pick up its second straight conference victory on Saturday, April 8, as the Warriors welcome the University of Scranton to Williamsport.  Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Bruce Henry Park.
