LYCOMING MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS SUSQUEHANNA

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Lycoming College men's tennis team traveled to Susquehanna University, Tuesday afternoon, for a non-conference match. The Warriors won four of six singles matches to rally for a 4-3 victory over the Crusaders. Lycoming improves to 1-2 on the season, while Susquehanna falls to 0-6.

The Crusaders earned singles victories from junior Steve Kane, who won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 over Kyle Bartz (Sr./Stamford, Conn.; Ridgefield) at first flight, and from senior Justin Rhood who defeated Mike Byerly (So./West Milton, Pa.; Lewisburg) 6-1, 6-4 at second flight.

At third singles, the Warriors' Ryan Horsley (Jr./Allegany, N.Y.; Allegany Central) defeated freshman Russ Suereth 6-4, 6-4 and at fourth singles Craig Ayers (Fr./Milton, Pa.; Milton) defeated freshman Matt Stahl 6-1, 6-1.

At fifth singles, John Scarangello (Fr./Nazareth, Pa.; Pen Argyl) won 6-1, 6-4 over freshman Cooper Stewart and at sixth singles Colin Baier (Fr./Montoursville, Pa.; Montoursville) earned a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 victory over sophomore Danny Lief.

In doubles, Susquehanna earned a point by winning two of three pro sets over Lycoming as Kane and Rhood defeated Bartz and Ayers 8-2 at first flight and Stewart teamed with freshman Todd Adams for an 8-5 victory at third flight over Scarangello and Brian Pabst (Fr./Williamsport, Pa.; American International). Byerly and Horsley won at second doubles for the Warriors over Suereth and Stahl by a score of 8-2.

Lycoming will return to conference competition on Saturday, April 9, when they travel to Drew University.
