LYCOMING MEN’S
TENNIS OPENS SEASON WITH CLOSE LOSS TO SCRANTON
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s tennis team
opened their season, Saturday afternoon, hosting the University
of Scranton indoors at the West Branch Tennis Club. The Warriors
split the singles matches with the Royals, but could only claim
one doubles victory, falling by a final score of 4-3.
Bernardo
Urdaneta (Sr./Maracaibo, Venezuela; Bishop Neuman)
led Lycoming with a three set victory over Vikram Arora at first
singles by scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Freshman Ryan Horsley
(Allegany, N.Y.; Allegany Central) added a three-set win at
second singles over Andy Slike by scores of 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Senior Jason Mathews (North Wales, Pa.; Christopher Dock)
picked up the Warriors’ other singles victory in the fourth slot
by scores of 6-2, 5-7, 6-4; over Mike Clark.
Urdaneta and
Horsley also teamed up to record Lycoming’s lone doubles
victory. The duo topped Arora and Slike, 9-8 with a 9-7
tiebreaker.
The Warriors
are scheduled to play again on Wednesday, March 24, hosting
Wilkes University at 3 p.m.
