MEN’S TENNIS DEFEATS KING’S
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s tennis team
traveled to King’s College, Thursday afternoon, for a Freedom
Conference match. The Warriors picked up their second victory of
the season, defeating the Monarchs 6-1. Lycoming is now 2-6
overall and 2-4 within the conference. King’s drops to 3-11 and
1-5.
Bernardo
Urdaneta (Sr./Maracaibo, Venezuela; Bishop Neumann)
led the Warriors with a 6-2, 6-4, victory at first singles.
Jason Mathews (Sr./North Wales, Pa.; Christopher Dock) added
a 6-2, 6-2, win at third singles. Mike Byerly (Fr./West
Milton, Pa.; Lewisburg) won 6-4, 7-6, at fourth doubles.
Kyle Bartz (Jr./Stamford, Conn.; Ridgefield) recorded a 6-2,
3-6, 6-3, victory at fifth singles. And Sam Trone (Fr./Aspers,
Pa.; Biglerville) rounded out singles play with a 6-4, 6-3,
win in the sixth position.
In doubles
play, Urdaneta teamed up with Ryan Horsley (Fr./Allegany,
N.Y.; Allegany Central) for an 8-3 win in the first
position. Mathews and Trone added an 8-4 victory at second
doubles; and Byerly and Bartz won at third doubles, 8-1.
Lycoming has
completed their dual-match schedule, but members of the team
will compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference singles and
doubles tournaments being held April 29-30.
