MOERSCHBACHER
AND URDANETA FIND SUCCESS AT MAC MEN’S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
WILKES-BARRE,
PA – The Lycoming College doubles team of Scott Moerschbacher
(Sr./Montoursville, PA; Montoursville) and Bernardo
Urdaneta (So./Maracaibo, Venezuela; Claret School) performed
well at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships
hosted by Wilkes University over the weekend. The Warrior duo
entered the tournament seeded fourth and won three matches to
advance to the semifinals before having their run come to an end.
Moerschbacher
and Urdaneta opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over a
team from Wilkes in the first round. In the second round, they
were again perfect with a 6-0, 6-0 win over a pair from Albright
College. Lycoming’s top doubles team then defeated a duo from
King’s College, 6-3, 6-3, to advance to the semis. In the
semifinals, Moerschbacher and Urdaneta met up with the
tournament’s top seed from Drew University falling 6-1, 6-3.
Andy
Slawecki (Jr./Trappe, PA; Perkiomen Valley)
and Colin Gabler (Jr./Camp Hill, PA; Trinity) also competed
in the doubles tournament, but were eliminated in the first round,
2-6, 6-3, 6-1, by a team from Susquehanna University.
Lycoming’s
singles competitors were Joe Connell (Sr./Chambersburg, PA;
Chambersburg) and Eric Frey (Sr./Williamsport, PA;
Williamsport). Both student-athletes fell in the opening round
of play. Connell lost, 7-5, 6-0, to Dave Kurvink from Moravian
College. Frey fell to Rob Logan of Susquehanna, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
