WARRIOR MEN’S
TENNIS OPENS SEASON WITH VICTORY
HUNTINGDON, PA
– The Lycoming College men’s tennis team opened up the 2002
season with a convincing victory over Juniata College. The
Warriors dropped just one match en route to the 6-1 win. Lycoming
starts the year at 1-0, while the Eagles fall to 0-3.
Scott
Moerschbacher (Sr./Montoursville, PA; Montoursville)
got things started at first singles, defeating his opponent in
straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Bernardo Urdaneta (So./Maracaibo,
Venezuela; Claret School) followed at second singles with a
6-0, 6-1 victory. Joe Connell (Sr./Chambersburg, PA;
Chambersburg), Jason Mathews (So./North Wales, PA;
Christopher Dock), and Andy Slawecki (Jr./Trappe, PA;
Perkiomen Valley) added wins at fourth, fifth, and sixth
singles, respectively.
The Warriors
also won all three doubles matches to claim the team point.
Doubles play earns a single team point for the school that wins
the best of three matches.
Lycoming will
open up their home schedule on Saturday, March 23, when they host
Drew University.
