Blowing from one goal to the other, a strong wind made moving the ball very difficult one way, while moving the other way was, let’s say, a breeze. In the first half, the Warriors had the wind at their backs. Paul Boucher (Hauppauge, NY) scored Lycoming’s sole goal on a cross from senior Dan Jackson (Windsor, NJ). The score remained 1-0 until the second half. More than 13 minutes after the break, Randy Strurm tied the match 1-1. It wasn’t until the 76th minute that Sturm scored his second goal of the game and DeSales took the lead. The Bulldogs’ German Reyes, who had assisted both of Sturm’s goals, netted the final score of the game with just 2:17 remaining. The Warriors will return next year as a Commonwealth Conference team, prepared to do battle with heavyweights like Messiah and Elizabethtown. Lycoming’s September 23 victory over Etown shows that the blue and gold can stand up to the competition. |
