Tough Breaks Spell a Loss for Lycoming                            The Warriors Fall to Franklin & Marshall 4-1

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa–The Lycoming men’s soccer team (2-5-2) couldn’t seem to catch a break against a solid Franklin and Marshall team (8-1-1) who are now ranked 22nd nationally in Division III. Lycoming head coach Scott Kennell tried to overcome several tough breaks, but the day ended in frustration.

Lycoming got off to a slow start but managed to stay with the Diplomats for the first forty minutes. The game was neck and neck with goals by Franklin & Marshall’s Matt McCall and Lycoming’s freshman forward Chris Lorenzet (Forest Hill, MD). After their first goal, the Warriors couldn’t seem to get a call, recording twelve fouls on the day.

In the meantime, a misplaced header left the score 2-1 in favor of the Diplomats at halftime. After leaving in the first half, due to illness, Lycoming senior Dan Jackson (Windsor, NJ) came back with no less than a valiant effort to rally the team. However, even with Jackson’s leadership effort, Franklin & Marshall’s Matt McCall put in another goal in the 73rd minute.

McCall ended the day with three goals, his last coming on a defensive breakdown in the Warrior half of the field that left an open net. Lycoming would mount an admirable last chance effort in the 88th minute culminating in a shot attempt by freshman Dan Marcin (Wilmington, DE) that went wide right.

The Warriors host Delaware Valley at Shangraw Athletic Complex this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. There will be a post-game Senior Day acknowledgement of seniors Dan Jackson and Eric Stickel.
