WARRIOR MEN’S SOCCER DEFEATS CHOWAN

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. The Lycoming College men’s soccer team recorded their second consecutive shutout to start the season. The Warriors scored two first-half goals to top Chowan College 2-0, Sunday afternoon, in the second round of the Lyco Kickoff Classic. Lycoming improves to 2-0 on the year, while the Braves fall to 1-2.

Jeff Kocher (Jr./Churchville, Md.; C. Milton Wright) was once again the star performer for the Warriors. Kocher scored both of Lycoming’s goals just one day after tallying a hat-trick in a 4-0 victory over Neumann College. His first goal versus Chowan came 23 minutes into the contest off an assist from Phil Kratochvil (Jr./Bel Air, Md.; C. Milton Wright). Kocher’s second goal came with six minutes remaining in the first half. Peter Ruhl (Jr., Muncy, Pa.; Muncy) assisted on the play.

Jason Fesler (Sr./Carlisle, Pa.; Cumberland Valley) has yet to be scored upon this season, as he made seven saves to record his second shutout. Fesler’s biggest save of the contest came late in the second half when he dove to his right to save a penalty kick by the Braves’ Travis Dickerson.

Kocher, Kratochvil, and Ryan Wertz (Jr./Middletown, Pa.; Middletown) were each named to the all-tournament team. (A complete all-tournament team is listed below.) The Warriors were named co-champions of the tournament along with Susquehanna University who defeated Neumann College 2-0, Sunday afternoon.

Lycoming will travel to Susquehanna for their next match on Friday, September 10. The Warriors will be defending the “Boot” in the fourth annual “Battle of the Boot” between two rivals separated by less than 40 miles. Kickoff for the match is set for 7 p.m.
