LYCOMING MEN’S SOCCER DEFEATS BAPTIST BIBLE

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team hosted non-conference opponent Baptist Bible College, Thursday afternoon. The Warriors posted two goals in the first period and added a third in the second period for a 3-2 victory over the Defenders. Lycoming improves to 6-3-1 overall, while Baptist Bible falls to 4-5-1.

The Defenders scored the game’s first goal when Nathan Miller (Sr./Webster, N.Y.; Webster Christian) scored off an assist from Joe Luethy (Fr./Hikari, Japan; Japan Faith Academy) in the 36th minute. A late flurry by the Warriors, however, gave the home team a 2-1 halftime lead. Peter Ruhl (Jr./Muncy, Pa.; Muncy) evened the score with a goal off a corner-kick by Andy Gallagher (Fr./Baltimore, Md.; Kenwood) with 2:17 to play in the first half. Just 77 seconds later, Gallagher notched a goal of his own off an assist from Jeff Kocher (Jr./Churchville, Md.; C. Milton Wright).

In the second half, Derek Jacobs (Jr./Clarks Summit, Pa.; Abington Heights) tied the game at 2-2, scoring off an indirect kick by Justin Kemmerer (So./West Seneca, N.Y.; West Seneca Christian). The goal came with just more than 10 minutes to play in the match.

Two minutes later, Tony Komons (Fr./Frederick, Md.; Frederick) took a pass from Kocher and dribbled past a pair of defenders before placing the ball in the upper right-hand corner of the net for the game-winning goal.

Jason Fesler (Sr./Carlisle, Pa.; Cumberland Valley) went the distance in goal for Lycoming, making three saves to record the victory. John Bruckner (Sr./Londonderry, N.H.; Calvary Christian) was in net for the Defenders and made seven saves.

The Warriors will be at home again for their next match, hosting Freedom Conference rival Delaware Valley College on Sunday, October 3. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
