WARRIOR MEN’S SOCCER KEEPS ROLLING WITH WIN OVER DESALES

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team hosted conference rival DeSales University, Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors came back from a one-goal deficit to win their ninth consecutive game and remain undefeated in conference play, defeating the Bulldogs 2-1. Lycoming improves to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference with the victory. DeSales falls to 5-4 and 1-1.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead scoring a goal in just the second minute of the game. Tim Mellon (Fr./Effort, Pa.; Pleasant Valley) deflected the ball into the net off a clearing attempt by the Warriors. Lycoming, however, would hold DeSales scoreless for the rest of the game, while scoring two goals of their own.

Jeff Kocher (So./Churchville,Md.; C. Milton Wright) knotted the game at one after a foul inside the penalty box by the Bulldogs led to a penalty kick.

The Warriors took the lead midway through the second half. Andrew Rampulla (So./Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Cumberland Valley) scored the game winner off an assist by Kocher, who headed a throw-in by Paul Zippel (Cherry Hill, NJ./Cherry Hill) over a defender.

Jason Fesler (Jr./Carlisle, Pa.; Cumberland Valley) made nine saves in goal for Lycoming. Ryan Karasow (So./Hatboro, Pa.; Upper Moreland) made seven saves for DeSales.

The Warriors’ nine consecutive victories tie the program’s longest unbeaten streak. In 1992, Lycoming opened the year with a record of 8-0-1 before dropping their first contest.

Lycoming will travel to Delaware Valley College for their next match on Saturday, October 4.
