MEN’S SOCCER KEEPS ROLLING WITH WIN OVER DESALES
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team hosted
conference rival DeSales University, Tuesday afternoon. The
Warriors came back from a one-goal deficit to win their ninth
consecutive game and remain undefeated in conference play,
defeating the Bulldogs 2-1. Lycoming improves to 9-1 overall and
2-0 in the conference with the victory. DeSales falls to 5-4 and
1-1.
The Bulldogs
jumped out to an early lead scoring a goal in just the second
minute of the game. Tim
Mellon (Fr./Effort, Pa.; Pleasant Valley)
deflected the ball into the net off a clearing attempt by
the Warriors. Lycoming, however, would hold DeSales scoreless
for the rest of the game, while scoring two goals of their own.
Jeff
Kocher (So./Churchville,Md.; C. Milton Wright)
knotted the game at one after a foul inside the penalty box by
the Bulldogs led to a penalty kick.
The Warriors
took the lead midway through the second half. Andrew Rampulla (So./Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Cumberland Valley) scored
the game winner off an assist by Kocher, who headed a throw-in
by Paul Zippel (Cherry
Hill, NJ./Cherry Hill) over a defender.
Jason Fesler
(Jr./Carlisle, Pa.; Cumberland Valley)
made nine saves in goal for Lycoming. Ryan Karasow
(So./Hatboro, Pa.; Upper Moreland) made seven saves for
DeSales.
The Warriors’
nine consecutive victories tie the program’s longest unbeaten
streak. In 1992, Lycoming opened the year with a record of 8-0-1
before dropping their first contest.
Lycoming will
travel to Delaware Valley College for their next match on
Saturday, October 4.
